Acer palmatum Orange Dream

I have just bought the above to grow in a pot. It has quite an upright habit. Do you think it would be possible by means of canes and/or bonzai wire over a few years to give it a more pendulous habit?

I'm sure it could be done, but I'm not sure you'd get the result you're hoping for.
I think that if you bend/train an upright branch into a downward position, the plant will put its energy for that branch into the highest point of the branch in its search for the best light, and it'll start sprouting little branches that point upward along the length of the trained branch.
Or maybe that is what you were hoping for image
An interesting question and will be keen to hear what others think

Mmmm not really what I wanted. I just wanted it to be a bit more droopy! Perhaps I shall scout about online and see if I can get a pendulous one.
