Cosmos too late to sow?

GrajeanGrajean Posts: 447

Is it too late to sow more Cosmos? My poor plants have suffered with leaf scorch and not looking too happy so thought perhaps a late sowing as I have lots of spare seeds.

I've not sown mine yet. Next week, hopefully.

  • I wouldn't think it would be to late just means they flower a little later that is all!

I've sown earlier, but they've become leggy by the time I was ready to plant them out, so I'm not worried about that this year.

    Devon.
  • I've been in the greenhouse all afternoon potting on my cosmos seedlings. I have suffered from leggy plants, when are you supposed to pinch the tops?

not too late, I sowed my first ones at the e begginning of the month, in a heated propogator like it said temp between 20-25, and none have germinated, last year it was the kitchen windowcill for starters.

I sowed mine earlier this year-  but most years I do them in April - no problems - make for nice late flowers when a lot of other stuff has gone over.

Samantha - I start pinching mine back when there are 2 sets of 'proper' leaves and always pot them on burying the stem up to the bottom leaves. Makes for stockier plants.

I've planted some of mine out already but sowed a few more for backup recently. They weren't leggy even though i sowed end of Feb. I have some with flower buds even. It is expected to get up to 18 degrees here next week so i thought it was a good time to chance it.

Don't sow cosmos, I've got hundreds of them ready to be pricked out, I'll have to dump them soon. You're very welcome to them. X
