Is this turf normal?

I have just finished laying 70m2 of turf however I am not very happy with it as there is lots of weeds and patches of coarse grass. Will these disappear after mowing or is it going to be a constant pain? Is the turf going to be ok or should I send it back to the supplier?

It's very dry looking which won't help. It has to be kept well watered till established. The gaps are because it's dried out, although they may not have been butted up well enough when laid either.

Newly laid turf shouldn't be full of weeds.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Mowing isn't going to get rid of the weeds and coarse grass. That will require a bit of work once the lawn is established.

  • The turf appears to be full of weed grasses, possibly Broad-leaved meadow grass (Poa chaixii), Ryegrass (Lolium spc) as well as some Selfheal (Prunella vulgaris).

You need to be having a word with the turf suppliers if it was sold or delivered in that condition. The weeds can be taken care of in time with a selective weedkiller if necessary but the weed grasses will need to be eradicated, much to the detriment of the surrounding decent grass; it will be hard work to patch over.
