hydrangea leaves

3 of my Hydrangeas have developed very soft brown leaves in the last couple of days. 2 of them have been in the ground for 3 years with no problems. 1 has been in a pot for 2 years with no probs. They are in different parts of the garden. Appreciate any idea what this is please.

  • Were there any frosts last week in your area?

Hydrangea leaves and buds are rather suseptible to damage from sharp drops in temperature when they're active, especially when the leaves are young or the flower heads from last year have been cut off shortly before frosts. Black flower and leaf buds are a good indicator of frost damage but this may take a few days to be noticeable.

Yes there was a sharp drop in temp last week. Is it best to just leave the leaves on? Thank you for your reply.
