    Alkanet - slightly bristly?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • It's Green Alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens).

It has VERY thick and deep taproots and spreads via seeds very easily. Pulling it up won't get rid of it. Even digging it out is hard to eradicate as any broken fragments of the roots left behind will regenerate into plants within a few weeks.

You can keep chopping it down, digging it up, cover with a strong membrane anchored down well or weedkiller it. If you use weekdkiller, just make sure the flowers are cut off to deter pollinating insects from going onto the plants. You will need a very strong weedkiller solution to see this off is one go!
