Pergola

I'm hoping that someone can give me some much needed guidance and help. My husband built a pergola in our front garden several years ago and we now have some beautiful climbing plant adorning it such as clematis Jasmine Solanum honeysuckle and climbing roses all of which are beautiful but sadly 6 weeks ago he passed away, I know how to cut the lawn and deal with his roses but he never taught me how to deal with the pergola and it is starting to grow wild, he used to climb up on to it and tie it all down but there's no way I can do that, please if any of you have any advice or ideas for me I would be very grateful.

This is really sad Seabreeze06.  You haven't said why you can't can't climb on the pergola.  I have a pergola but I don't have quite as many plants growing on it as you do.

    Pragmatic reply:

    A) Buy in skills, i.e. employ a gardener to maintain it.

    B) Employ someone to rip it out.

    C) Buy a platform to give you access without having to climb (I don't know your situation).

    D) Remove the "thuggish" plants only, leaving you just the slower growers to deal with.

If I've misunderstood the question then I apologise.  I realise that there can be a lot of things to deal with when you are grieving and so some things can seem overwhelming. I hope this gives you food for thought and some basis to move forward.
