Help needed please to identify this weed.

Hello

I wonder whether anyone can help me identify this weed which is taking over in the garden and lawn.  It may help to know that it's a very wet garden. Obviously I would like to be able to eliminate this asap.  Thank you.

Horsetail. Good luck notoriously hard to rid of as roots go very deep. Crush and spray with weedkiller

Yep, horsetail.  I have some.  Very hard to get rid of.  Thinking of patio'ing over mine!

Watch it doesn't come through cloggie! Gone through neighbours tarmacked driveway :(

I keep mine in check by pulling and weedkilling!

Thank you so much for your really quick replies.  Someone suggested it was horsetail, but it didn't look like the photos that came up on Google images. So I suppose it's going to be a long haul and constant vigilance.  I'm grateful for your help, now at least I know what to do.  Thank you all once again.

It snaps when you try to weed it out so you never really get rid of the roots unless you use a digger!

Which we have - an extension went over most of it.

I have 2 or 3 spots left which I intend to concrete over.

Sounds dramatic but thankfully fitted in with plans we had anyway.

    Tarmac isn't lightproof I don't think ice.
