     There are different varieties in the species, do you remember where you got it from?

    Logan  I bought it from the garden shop at a castle which sold uncommon plants.  I have had it for ten years now.

    Not like any escallonia I've ever seen.  They usually have slightly rounder leaves with serrated edges.

    Obellix, I vaguely remember something about New Zealand origin.
