How often to water Olive Tree?
in Plants
Hi, I have a rather nice, quite mature Olive Tree is a sizeable pot (approx 60x60x60cm).
Any google suggestions are quite vague, so it's probably a bit of a piece of string type question but I am always at a slight loss how often to water such large potted plants. Any suggestions for now (Spring) and in the height of Summer are welcome.
I had one years ago that didn't do well and I just really don't want to lose this one!
Pot seems to have good drainage and is raised off the ground.

Is it a new one or have you had it for a while?
I've just bought it so this is a new, larger pot. Hard to judge how old it is from it's size but certainly looks established.
Looks a good age - mine is maybe half that diameter and is about 6 years old.
It's much taller than yours, but has never been trimmed or shaled, so around 6ft I'd say. Looks like yours has been trimmed up top, to make it bushier.
Where I sometimes go to GReece to see family, they literally grow on the beach, so like poor soil, but if in a pot will need a bit more.
I give mine Q4 pelleted feed in spring, a fungicide spray in Autumn against rust, practically no watering unless it doesn't rain in weeks, and no watering in winter.
Mine is SE facing and they do like lots of sun.
Dunno about the watering but he is a lovely beastie, overgrowth.
Mine looks around the same height but not nearly so muscly. I give mine a bit of FBB in spring. Last year I was using the same pot to grow basil so it got watered usually weekly, but not a lot. Gave me a couple of olives, bless him.
