Can anyone identify this? It self seeded 2 years ago and now I need to decide whether to keep it or kill it off.

    Looks like a willow, probably Salix caprea.

    It looks rather like Goat Willow - Salix caprea. I would get rid of it if it is Goat Willow.

    No, not a plant for a garden unless it's huge. Also willow come in male and female and you don't know til they flower. You might not get pussy willows, just a snowstorm of fluff from the females later in the year

    Ha ha nutcutlet that is very true, I love pussy willow but it might not have the cute paws....and I have a 70 foot birch in the garden that doesn't need a mate to chat to in my opinion, it ought to go, but I don't have the heart, it's older than I am so came first :)

    So I shall resist pussy's pleas to be planted!

    I noticed today that dozens of my pots of young plants have birch seedlings, tiny but still recognisable. The grass in the meadow is littered with Field Maples and the garden has those and Ash
