Blueberries and mains water

Hi All,

I am runnining a big fruit growing project at the school where I work and we are about to order porous hose to automatically water a large raised bed through the summer. We have two lines of raspberries and a line of blueberries, but I'm worried that the tap water will be too alkaline for the blueberries. I am putting in sulphur powder to the blueberries to lower ph this week, but still worried that the water will counteract it. We could water by hand using rainwater but it will be more labour intensive. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on using tap water on sulphured soil? Will it be ok?

thanks

Rob

Could you look at getting an automatic watering system hooked up to a rainwater butt instead? They are commonly available and it would be better both for the blueberries and the environment generally, water being a precious resource and all that. The school presumably has a reasonably large roof that could be used to collect rainwater. That in itself would be a good education project
