Climbing Plant for Shady/Clay

TashaWTashaW Posts: 1

Good evening.

I'd love to plant a fast growing climber to cover the side wall of my staircase (a.k.a. the ugliest structure known to mankind); unfortunately that part of the garden is shady and the soil e very clay-ish.

What kind of plant would you suggest, please?

Thanks in advance!

What way does the staircase face (how much sun does it get) and how far away from the wall can you go with a planting hole?

The climbing hydrangea may do the trick - hydrangea petiolaris. Other than that a Virginia creeper would do. Both of these are relatively fast growing but it will take quite a few years to get any height.
