Margi, you can get Sequestrene from a local Garden Cenre or from big DIY stores in their gardening section. Those big fat buds are the flowers and it is going to look very beautiful when they open. You have excellent advice from Berghill and Fairygirl - rainwater only and clear a circle of grass away from the trunk of the Rhododendron. Hopefully when you planted it out you didn't plant it too deep. The plant rootball should be level with the hole you dug for it and you could have mixed some ericaceous compost (available at the same outlets as mentioned for the Sequestrene) with the soil you filled the hole with.

Oh margi. A lot on here will understand your grief. Many of us are totally besotted with our pets be they canine or feline (thats me) and we have all been there. What lovely dogs. As I said earlier, that rhododendron is going to look magical in May and June. Don't panic. Just do all the grass clearing gently and don't forget to post a picture of it in all its glory.

Don't worry Margi. You'll get any help you need. If it'snot been there too long, it won't be difficult to move if necessary. Take a bit of time to clear a bit more grass away.  It will set the plant off more too if it has a good space round it  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Now that picture gives us a better perspective. Definitely move the grass so that you have a nice big ring of bare soil - like its own little flower bed - all around it. Its a lovely position for the Rhododendron. If you want any more help just click on Message at the bottom of this box and a private message (pm) will come directly to me.
