Sorry looking plant - ID & pruning?
in Plants
I have inherited a rather sorry looking plant - not sure what it is (I think it might be a Lobelia?) or if I need to prune it at all.
Any suggestions welcome as ever!

I can't get close enough to see much detail, but I think I would cut it down more for new growth.
Persicaria perhaps?
Or a Gaura? I would cut it right back and feed and water well.
Take some cuttings from the tips then prune it back and feed and water it. Cross fingers.
Or just leave it whole but feed it and see what happens. Lovely colour on the fresh foliage.
Might be penstemon digitalis Husker Red in which case it's worth looking after.
I think it's a Gaura, they should be cut back after flowering, so I wonder if it's cut right back now, you would lose the flowers for this year. Maybe tidy it up and prune it in the Autumn after flowering.
