No, both can be quite tricky.

Try dwarf French beans.  Easy to grow and very rewarding ... you'll feel like a real gardener when you pick and eat your first harvest.

Cool  I would Imagine 10-15l pot will suffice for Dwarf  French Beans ?

I'd also use 50% John Innes No 2 and 50% multipurpose compost, mixed together.

can I grow the seeds straight  in the pot or would i need a seedlings tray?

what spacing would I need in your opinion

Sow them straight in the pots.  Spacing may depend a bit on variety, so read the back of the seed packet, although in a pot you can get away with sowing a bit closer together than in the open ground - but the odd inch more or less isn't vital so don't worry.

Ok uf that's what you've got I'd use No 3 with the MPC.

Its not an exact science. Your plants will be fine.

As for washing pots , in theory we should, few of us do.  No one seems to have any ill effects to report.  There was a thread about it a while back.

Ive only grown leeks from seed myself - I've not used bought in seedlings so I can't really comment, but the process is the same.

You might like to look out for a copy of Alan Titchmarsh's book, How To Be A Gardener - it'll give you a lot of the basic information you seem unsure of. image
