Hydrangetd new blooms brown

Hi all can anyone help with my new hydrangea?  Recently bought early hydrangeas , planted (they are in full sun during day) and watered every day.  Leafs are okay but more than half the bloom centres are brown burn looking.  Could it be that too hard a jet of water was used, could it be the sun?  What can I do to resurrect the plant.  Please help.

It's very early indeed for hydrangeas to be flowering unless they've been forced and kept in a sheltered or heated greenhouse ... if this is the case and now they've been put outside, the bright sunshine and/or frosts could both have damaged the blooms.

thank you both.  Is there anything I can do to save the blooms eg cut the brown out or cut the bloom off.  Will it produce another bloom.  I don't want to replace the plant.  Should I create shade for it?  How would I do that?

  • The blooms are incredibly early... but if it's been recently purchased and was in flower at the time (probably due to being raised in a heated greenhouse or polytunnel), the flowering season may be over for this year.

Best hope is to look online for your Hydrangea variety and prune accordingly as the pruning requirements vary enourmously from species to species.

    Thansk Mietastic

the blooms are there but not fully developed just budding crowns no mops and no lace caps.  I am very disappointed.  I think they were burnt by sun drying harsh watering by my brother.

It's still early foor the blooms to unfold but maybe watering in the daytime has scorched them. Water droplets act like miniature magnifying glasses, magnifying the Sun's rays, which are surpisingly strong at this time of year, but don't feel that way.

Maybe prune some of the stems back to 1cm above the nearest bud (if there are any buds left!). It may create new buds in desperation to flower. Some Hydrangeas are tougher than many people give them credit for.
