New garden blank slate: It is taking form.

so I've been here a month now, what was here before was patchy lawn with bits of wood stuck in the grass marking out where the last occupant expected pixies to dig out borders in the night.  There was a big yucca, and that was it. oh and dandelions, thousands and thousands of dandelions.  The lawn is basically a dandelion party and they have invited all theif friends.

Put half a ton of soil in to the borders so far.

Stage one: creating the borders (even if it kills me, why are there so many half bricks)

Stage 2. Slow planting things as they are ready to go in.

Stage 3. Apple Orchard! All of this vista will be tree if the soil does not kill them.

If you are wondering why there are two strips of tarmac layed upon two strips of concrete, then I'm right there with you.

Stage 4 will be tidying up including killing dandelions and repairing  the lawns. There is a back garden as well but it's just patchy grass with a maiden cherry tree in it, which currently looks a lot like patchy grass with a stick tied to a stake In the middle of it.

This garden will be pretty, no matter how much rubble the mean builders left in it. :D

Very nice, I love the idea of the Orchard. Great way to use that awkward bit of space to the side.

Amazing job! I've done a similar thing with a blank canvas in the past year and it definitely keeps you fit haha good luck with the rest!

Looking Great imageimageimage  Looks like lots of hard work.  Keep the photos coming as it all starts to mature.  They're great to look back on n in a few years too - you'll forget how it used to look when you first started.

  • Agree, brilliant idea about the orchard image

The tree stakes look "over the top" to me...

  • Thank you for so many kind responses image

Tomorrow I'll post pictures of the production line of plants for the borders. I have about 50 inside, 80 in my little grow house which will be moved under cloches tomorrow if the postman brings them. 72 plug plants should arrive tomorrow (£1.99 offer from t&m) I got a propigator full of pretties germinating and I'm waiting on more seeds for the other propagators.  I'll give you a second to wonder wait what why huh over 200 plants???

I'm taking the pick of the litters and the rest are being donated to the community garden image

    See original post

I know lol. Those are on M106 rootstock so will grow to 12-14ft (3.5-4m) wide and high. Stakes can be removed in 5 years time. Without a banana for scale you can't see that there is 4m between them.  ;)
