If I can offer a different suggestion......how about getting rid of it? i personally don't like them at all. Apart from being evergreen they don't have much to recommend them. They grow huge, and while pruning can keep them in check, it's hard work because you can't just take the hedgetrimmers to it. If you do it cuts the leaf in half and looks really tatty. You need loppers and shears and have to be careful where you cut. If you're a fan of laurel and are prepared to put the work in I'm sure you can make them look ok but there are far easier, and in my view, far more attractive evergreen shrubs you can get.

Thank you all for you responses and advice!! You have given me plenty to think about image

I think it's probably going to grow too big for where it is and for the border generally. As such, I think I'm going to replant it in a large 66L tub I have and locate it elsewhere (and keep a keen eye on it!).

This does however open up another question - what to put in its place?? Definitely looking for something a bit less massive! Not too wide (1m or so max) but with some height nevertheless (up to 2m?) to give some cover/privacy for the fence. Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated!

    Thanks
