Might be a Eucalyptus, is your climate reasonably mild? Are the leaves scented, another give away?
It does look a bit like a eucalyptus. Is it evergreen?
Thank you so much for your responses! I did some more internet searching and think it might be a 'Eucalyptus neglecta - Omeo Gum', so you were totally right. It is evergreen, but doesn't have any scent that I can detect. Maybe it is too young to give off much of a scent?
