I have some primroses which have been flowering pretty well contiuously for 6 months but have finally given up the ghost. Should I 'snap off' the spent stalks or just leave the plant to its own devices?
I cut off the spent stalks and shake the seed heads as Bob suggests. If there are any large plants this is also a really good time to lift and divide plants to increase your stock / rejuvenate older plants. Water well after replanting then mulch.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
If the conditions are right, I think they will spread anyway. In our community farm garden, which has been very neglected, they have spread everywhere!

Personally I remove them and shake the old heads over where I want more to grow. They germinate best from green seeds rather than dried brown ones.

Thanks very much - great advice. I shall get shaking! Cheers.
