Anyone know what disease this is?

Anyone have any idea what this disease is? Its a white mold on the bark and branches but not on the needles of an eight year old scots pine tree. Is the disease serious? TIA Patrick

That looks like a very very bad infestation of scale insects. If the trees are yours then you need to get them sprayed as soon as possible with a soap based insecticide.

Thanks for the advice Berghill. I dont know anything about trees but I am an occasional farmer and in my seriously unqualified opinion it looks more like a fungus. Ive just sprayed it with a plant fungicide so ill see if it does anything.

I wonder whether you have a really bad infestation of adelgids.  They are a sap-sucking insect specific to conifer bark.  You could pick off one of the fluffy lumps and dissect it to see what's inside...  have a look at photos on the internet.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

That could be it actually. The tree was transplanted 2 years ago so maube that stressed it
