Hi novice image  Yes it's safe to pot on chillies when they've outgrown their pots.

Here is a link to one of last years chilli discussions with some great advice on potting on and pot sizes from Bob.

The best way to grow chillies is to pot them on to only slightly larger pots several times.  If you put a small plant into a big pot they tend to sulk or even die.  To tell if it's ready, gently tip it out of it's current pot using your fingers over the top of the compost and see if the roots have reached the edge of the pot.  If they have, it's ready to put into a pot one or two sizes bigger (eg from a 9cm to a 11cm diameter pot.)  Keep doing that every few weeks until the roots reach the sides of a 15cm pot, at which point it can go into it's final pot.

They'll probably do OK in topsoil as long as you don't keep the soil too wet as they really appreciate good drainage.  Best to mix in a bit of grit or perlite to help with that.

Oh really that is good news ,  maybe when I move them I should add compost in your opinion.

I water if they are dry abit , so I would assume every other day , I am in the UK so i keep them in the conservatory, But I guess I can get them out in May

    Are you in the UK

    No worries novice image

A quick tip:   if you click/tap on someone's name or avatar pic (mine is pink gardening Crocs) you can read their bio, if they've filled it in.  I have and so has Bob, try it and you can see where we are.
