Gaura plants - frost hardy?

GrajeanGrajean Posts: 447

I have just bought 2 Gaura plants, not grown these before, are they frost hardy or best grown in pots and brought in for the winter?

I think they're supposed to be hardy to -5C.   You could take cuttings as insurance or else plant them in pots and shelter them.  I suspect it's wet as well as cold that gets them.

My pleasure.  I bought some myself a couple of weeks ago and plan to take cutting both to increase and preserve them.

never grew them in teh Belgian garden as I knew they wouldn't cope.  Friends treated them as annuals which seemed a waste to me but I never had space in my wee greenhouse which was full of salvias and hostas and a gunnera every winter.   Here I shall have a bigger polytunnel so plenty fo space - in theory.
