Dahlia shoots

I have just planted the dahlias which have been winter stored under the stairs, but a couple of them have very long shoots (about 6inches) which are pinky white and a bit floppy.  Do I cut these off or leave them on?? should they be under the soil?? if so, the tubers would have to be planted very deep.  Help, please

I would nip the tip out and plant as normal, dont know waht else you can do with them. I dont think they would be much use as cutting either image
