What is this weed all over my lawn?

image

Hello gardening officiandos, I would really appreciate your help. I have this weed (see photo) all the lawn in my new house. My mother has duly terrified me that there is no point re-turfing before I find out what it is and kill it, or it will come back through the new lawn. It doesn't seem to be any of the 'standard' lawn weeds. Please help me! Thanks very much, Dan

Those look like sycamore tree seedlings.  They won't survive a regular mowing but don't leave it too long as they grow fast!

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Yes, sycamore tree seedlings - mowing will deal with them.  In future try to mow the lawn before they grow their big leaves.  image
