Soot Everywhere!

Can anyone tell me why my paraffin heater has covered the inside of my greenhouse with soot? It's everywhere!!

Hi Paula
Hopefully this earlier thread will help http://www.gardenersworld.com/forum/problem-solving/why-is-my-parffin-heater-making-my-greenhouse-full-of-soot/633466.html

Paula, Dove has put the old thread back up and I did comment on that. The wick needs trimming each time before you light the heater. A sharp pair of scissors and pull up the wick, cut off the charred end bit cleanly, turn back down to light the wick and then turn the wick down to just above the wick holder. One thing with those heaters is they give off a lot of condensation so leave a vent cracked open when using the heater. I went onto electric fan heaters a long time ago for the very reasons you say, the odd soot up but more damaging the condensation.

Pansyface, 25 V "err oops' I mean lamps, where did they find them, that sounds like an oil well to me, I assume they had not heard of global warming. Us cheeky schoolboys when we had the Bible lesson used to quote, you get on my wick luckily the Teacher was half deaf. In my day it was Gas Lamps though they would have needed a long gas pipe.
I did try a Gas heater in the greenhouse after the oil heater soot up, found the condensation even worse so went electric, no more problems.
