Protecting borders from patio cleaner

Hi, I have black spots (lichen) on my stone patio. I've found a product that specifically deals with it but my patio is edge with borders. How can I stop the product running into the borders when applying and then removing with the jet wash! I don't want to kill my plants and red robin hedging!

    I bought myself a pressure washer and used that,so any run off is just water.Patio came up a real treat!
