3rd year asparagus picking

Evening everybody
So ive been picking my asparagus for the first time this year(happy days!!) , and ive been picking it since the first spear was ready to cut on April 1.
Just wondered how many weeks I should pick it for, some books say 3 weeks, some say 4, some say 6.
Don't want to over pick ,so would prefer to err on the side of caution, but would welcome any advice/exereiences with your pickings.

Never pick beyond the longest day. I don't know if this applies to young asparagus plants like yours, but it does to older ones.
We only did light picking the first year we could (I think it was for 3 weeks) - then the following year you can go to picking for the full season. Just gives the plants that little bit longer to get good and strong. Enjoy
