Linin terracotta pots with plastic bags

Is it a good idea to line clay pots with carrier bags? (With the bottom torn). I heard that it helped reduce evaporation via the clay pot but are there any problems e.g. water getting trapped in wrinkles and causing aerobic conditions?

I did this when I grew pot plants on the forecourt of my church, because I would only be there twice a week to water them. Looks much better than plastic pots and definitely helps with water retention.
I would cut the bottom of the bag out rather than rip it, for the reasons you suggest. Lining will certainly reduce the amount of evaporation.
That sounds a good idea. I avoid terracotta as they are just too heavy for me to move about. My back is bad enough as it is.

I've done this in the past with clay pots which are cracked, but too good to smash up for crocks. I've never had any problems .
If you line with plastic bags, don't cut the holes in the bottom, cut them about two inches up the side, that way they will store water for longer.
