Help with growing Lupins from seed
Hi.
I have been trying to grow Lupins from seed and am not having much success!
I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I started these in December in a mixture of horticultural sand and seed compost. They were fine at first but have gone very yellow. I've been keeping them well watered and fed them once with a nitrogenous liquid feed.
What should I do to get them to grow into healthy plants?
Regards
James

Are they common lupins? They look a bit leggy to me like they are bolting for light. There is a link here

Might be tree lupins, Lupinus arboreus. I think they need to be outside in the light.

Hi
Thanks for your help and sorry for the slow reply.
So - I planted both plants outside on the 9th April as you suggested. One has died, but the other one is really happy!
Two flower stems have appeared in the last two days so I'm hoping to be able to post a photo soon of the results.
Thanks again
Try again next year. Sow the seeds in March, indoors, then when they are about two to three inches tall and have second or even third sets of leaves, prick out into little pots, separately, not to big pots for a start, then keep in the GH or a plastic one and keep potting on when the roots have filled the pots.
keep them in for the winter, and by the following Spring you will have a big robust plant that should have made it into a 6" pot, tough enough to withstand slugs, plant them out at the start of May and they will flower for you.
if you want to grow perennials well, it's a waiting game, prepare for two years ahead.
