Sweet pea advice

Fionabee2Fionabee2 Posts: 19

Hi folks. I'm sorry to be lazy, I can see there are numerous sweet pea threads & I've trawled through a lot of them. This is prob very basic.

i bought 2 pots (approx 10 per pot) of sweet peas from Homebase 10 days ago, they have been sitting in the utility room until the last 24hrs when it has suddenly warmed up & they are now still in their pots, but outside. They have grown lots and I pinched them out yesterday. However the leaves are getting more pale, they started off quite dark green. This has happened to me before I my flowers have not been brilliant.

Where am I going wrong?

Thank you.

Too many in the pots and  they're not getting enough nutrients now, would be my best guess Fiona. Although they should really have been getting used to the outdoors before now too.

I grow mine mainly in pots. 10 plants would need a sizeable pot. I use around 8 or thereabouts in a 15" pot. image

Fiona, your sweet peas are suffering from overcrowding, lack of light and nutrients and possibly too much heat. The growers jam them into a pot, force them up quickly and sell them as fast as possible. If it is too cold to plant them in the ground they need to go into a greenhouse or cold frame with good light but not hot sun. Harden them off for a few days and then plant them out if you can.
