Courgettes in raised bed

in Fruit & veg
I have two courgettes with their first true leaves just coming through. When is the best time to transplant them outside?
I want to plant them in this raised bed. Could I plant them next to each other at one end? It is 75cm wide, thanks!

Too early to plant out - don't risk that until all danger of frosts have gone. I would keep re-potting them into a slightly larger pots when their roots reach the edge of their current pot until then. They make big plants - up to about a metre across so would only put one in there but you might get away with two side-by-side if you let them hang over the edge and can keep up with the watering.
Courgettes need maximum space, I agree with BobTG that one would fit nicely, two would be a squash as they grow enormous leaves. They will need plenty of watering every couple of days and feeding weekly to get optimum fruit. I agree that it is too early to plant out yet - we have only just sown our seed here, we usually plant out in May.
Ok, great thanks. I was going to plant some more soon inside aswell. I'll just pot the current ones up, when i can see the roots in the bottom. Thanks
Can you plant courgettes in containers?
Our daughter planted a couple of courgettes in pots for the first time last year - the plants only grew to a miniature size and the fruits were about a quarter of the size of normal courgettes - she won't be doing that again, so I would have to say no, don't bother.
Oh okay thanks. I think I am just going to plant one courgette at the end there in mid may and then a few more in the ground somewhere.
Yes, that seems like a good idea Charlie - and I do agree probably for the best if you want your courgette plant to reach it's full potential. We usually keep a couple of plants as spares - just in case one doesn't take.
We used to grow courgettes to sell on our hedge veg. stall, they were really popular with people living around here. However this year we are only planting 5 courgette plants in our garden - each plant produces 1 fruit per day, which is plenty for us and our daughters to eat.
