Is chinese celery root edible?

Last year I grew Chinese Celery; that's the kind that grows very thin hollow stalks like a straw.
They are bitter to just eat raw, so you cook them in sauces, etc.
Now I'm left with the roots which have been in my raised bed all winter.
Does anyone know if the roots are edible before I throw them away onto the compost?
The leaves were edible.

I didn't say I tried it raw. It is grown to be eaten cooked.
(You do know that if you type in capitals it's considered the equivalent of yelling?)
Chinese celery is quite common here, as we have a large Oriental population.
There are many recipes for Chinese celery, it 's fine added to sauces, and the leaves are good in salads.
All I'm trying to do is find out if the root is also edible, as it looks like celeriac.

I have never heard of this veg before; what does it taste like cooked? I'm always up for trying something new!

I just put it in things like a pasta sauce to add a few more vitamins and goodness, so it's difficult to tell what it tastes like individually.
To be honest , I was quite surprised that it actually grew!
That's it on the back of the left hand bed in the photo, it sort of went crazy.
I won't grow it again, I'll try something new this year.

Thanks! I just had a third raised bed built last week. I'm hopeless at flowers, so may as well grow food!???
