Breeding hellebores!
in Plants
I have some single hellebores dotted around the garden. I'd like them to be in clumps but I had a budget to stick to! Theres loads of seed heads on them now. Am I right in thinking that as I haven't cross pollinated them the seeDS are effectively infertile and they won't spread?

No, you're totally wrong Liz. they are a promiscuous lot without your assistance and you'll have a forest of seedlings
You might get some good ones, I just weed out the dirty pinks and anything else I don't like

No. Green
They aren't ripe, yet! They'll grow if you give them half a chance.
They're ripe when you see the pod start to open, it will be a while yet

I rarely deadhead any of mine, leaving a good few to produce seed pods. This year, the dark one which flowers constantly, has produced masses of seedlings. That's the first time it has seeded around properly - I've had it two or three years. Just let it do it's thing and you should be rewarded
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I've got babies from last year spring up all around the place

Ok I shall leave and let nature take its course. Can I cut the seed heads off and leave them in other parts of the garden to sporn or do they need to be attached to the plant to work?
I shall look for open pods and transport any black seeds!
they do much better in the ground than in pots

A couple are in pots, most in different beds
