arum italicum. Native ( I think ) wild flower, if you like it , it's a flower, if not, it's a weed.

    Devon.

  • I've got them, I'm digging them out as they spread too much, seem to be one of those that you leave in for a year or two because they look small and manageable, just popping up here and there in shady spots then suddenly - wow they're everywhere and out of control. I'd get rid. Esp. seeing how many you've got there.

Thanks so much, I think we already have a problem...it's like day of the triffids, first one appeared now there are 30 or more of these clumps all over the place, think I might get rid especially if they are poisonous

  • Make sure you dig deep and get the bulbs image

  • They're interesting in flower. Save a big one,to see how it looks when th spathe grows up enclosing a purplish spadix.  The berries are poisonous, yes, and the bulb contains oxalates that make your tongue go numb, but, it's quite easy for that not to happen - just don't eat it!  Holly berries and mistletoe can give you a nasty tummy ache, too, but we favour them

And what about foxgloves?  There are many, many poisonous plants, but vanishingly few cases of poisoning.
