Magnolia Stellata

Evening all!

I've got a young Magnolia Stellata tree that's been in place since 2015.

This year I've got about 4 flowers, last year I think I had 2!

Are they known for being slow growing, or is it maybe because I've got it in a bit of a shady spot?  My garden's south facing but it's at the top on the west border?

If I do need to move it (that's if they take to being transplanted??) could I do it soon or wait until the Autumn?

Thanks all for replies in advance.

They don't usually mind some shade. I'm surprised because mine began life as a tiny twig about four years ago and it has raced up and is covered in flowers. Does it have space and light around it? What sort of soil do you have? Do you feed and mulch regularly? Mine is in soil that holds moisture but doesn't get waterlogged and it is a little sheltered from strong wind. I don't know about moving them but someone else will.

    Hi Posy

    Thanks for your reply.

It's next to a rose on one side and a small Eucalyptus tree on the other.  Maybe it doesn't have as much space as it would like?  I have heavy clay soil, but no I probably haven't fed and mulched it since I planted it.  For reference what should I be feeding it with, and when?

My garden is very windy and exposed but where it's positioned is comparatively sheltered.

It might be the eucalyptus. I have read that they produce chemicals to suppress rival plants but I don't know if it's true. Someone on here will! I feed with blood fish and bone in Spring and mulch with composted stable waste in Spring and Autumn.
