Plant cherry blossom next to fence?
in Plants
I really want a cherry blossom in my garden. A mature tree would sit nicely next to my fence, with the branches reaching out over the top of the fence. But I guess a young tree would suffer if it were planted close to a fence, as the branches can't spread?
How close to a fence can you plant a young cherry blossom?

The branches on a tree grown as a full standard should have a clear stem up to or above fence height. Alternatively you could try an upright cherry like 'Amanogawa' which is narrower and the branches grow upwards. I wouldn't plant it too close though. The tree won't care about the fence. If the fence is in the way, it will come down!
