Young magnolia pruning
in Plants
Hi have a young magnolia soulgenea that has just been put in my garden. What I would like to know is can I prune some of the lower branches and if so when and how. There is a lot of contradictory advice out there.
The ones I want remove are on the left base of the magnolia

Magnolias don't like to be pruned. They are apt to produce a lot of unproductive shoots.
Our local park has one where they have trained it to be a single stemmed tree.
I'm keen to see what advice you get. I also have one.
On the internet it seems that you should give it a few years to grow and then maybe just prune one stem per year at most. I have no experience though so hope you get more replies from the experts.
