Work Placement
Does any one know if schools and colleges still do what old people like me call work experience.
I would love to convince my new employer that having a youngster working in the garden along side me would not only benefit me and my teaching skills but would also benefit him and his learning skills.
I now work in a beautiful garden with many different trees shrubs and lawns, passing the knowledge I have gained over many years would be useful to the next generation of gardeners Lester.

I don't work in a garden environment however I am a senior manager and as such do have young people every year on work experience- great for their CV even if they go in to a totally different field of work - usually arranged with the support of a local school. For me as a manager and for my team it's great to have someone to mentor and someone who will give you a totally different and sometimes surprising perspective on what you do - -Tray
Last year the Beechgrove Garden programme visited a horticultural college where the students did work placement with some gaining employment there after college.
Pershore college definitely used to ask you to do work experience. I didn't do very well on my placement - always late and forgetting to turn up! It was a largish private garden, owned by a couple of keen enthusiasts. This was c.2001.
I remember when I went back to college to study garden design. I was inundated with offers of " you can come and design mine" but when I suggested we discuss fees..... the offers dried up.
