Shady Border
A small area of our garden border (about 1m x 0.5m and then another section about 0.5m x 0.5m) is pretty much in full shade, it's empty at the moment but I was wondering if any one knows of any 'tropical' style plants that do well in shade?
I know ferns do well so may incorporate some of those but I'd like to include some other plants in there too.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Interesting - I would never have thought of that, Thanks!
Although our spot is behind a not particularly attractive overgrown shrub so some of the striking houseplant types might be a bit wasted behind it.
I was sort of thinking low-lying ground cover types if you know of any?
Thanks again!
How about a brunnera? Mine grow where little else will,
Pat.
Try a fatsia japonica. It will be quite happy in shady and has a tropical feel to it.
My camelias thrive in the shade. Dicentra also do well. Chocolate vine is a good shade climber and the scent from mine at the moment is fantastic.
Hostas are good and produce pretty flower spikes. Teamed with the other suggestions it should look fab.
