Fig tree over grown

hi, have this fig tree that is now very high and ends up creating a lot of shade. Dont want to remove but wondering if can just simply cut the branches down to top of fence level?  to ensure still lets light in.?imageimage

I would cut out about half of the thick branches and prune the top branches to a more manageable height. I did the same to my own fig tree earlier this year and it looks a lot better now and won't block so much sun when the leaves come in.

    Pruning will improve fruit yeald.

that tree looks like in has not been pruned in years so give it a hard prune now and each year in winter or early spring prune to remove any suckers growing and any secondary lateral branches that are close to the ground as they will drain the tree and not produce fruit.

Forgot to add the reason why you are not getting fruit now is all the trees resources are going into the growth leaving nothing for fruit production.
