tomatoes and courgettes

rosemummyrosemummy Posts: 2,010

I have some ready to prick out tomatoes and 2 courgettes that I've already potted on that are around 4 ins tall now with large leaves, when will it be safe to put them out either in the pop up gh (with broken zip, I really should get a new cover!) or my 'coldframe' ( clear plastic storage box!)

    Hi Rosemummy image

I don't think it's warm enough for them outside, even in a pop up greenhouse, just yet ... I only sowed my toms and courgettes on Saturday.

Also there's a possible cold snap coming up in mid April  http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast

so I wouldn't put them out until after that's over, unless you can bring them in at night and in cold snaps.

Tomatoes and courgettes just don't grow if they're not warm enough.

Mine are potted on, now in 4" pots, I put them outside for an airing yesterday, it was very warm and sunny, but when I brought them in at 5pm some tips of leaves had turned white, that's a sign of cold.

Thye will be kept indoors until end of April before going into the GH.

imageMy courgettes have been growing in a pop up greenhouse for about 2 weeks now.

I think they are doing ok.

Should i bring them back in?

There's one at the back looks a bit cold (with the white bits around the leaves).  I'd bring them inside overnight, especially if the weather takes a dive.
