Any idea what this is please?
It has big sharp spikes on it and it has a tendency to grow at right angles where it is pruned and it now looks like it has lots of elbows within the branches which are quite thick and woody.
It does flower, though I can't remember when or what colour
I pruned it relatively hard a few weeks ago to get it back into shape and I'm curious about what it could be. I'm hoping the mighty wisdom of the forum will save me having to wait impatiently for it to flower!
No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.

Hi Stephanie
Im on my phone and can't see the picture very clearly, but I think it may be a pyracantha sometimes called fire thorn. Clusters of creamy flowers loved by bees and red/orange berries in the autumn/ winter - a useful food source for birds - loved by blackbirds thrushes and visiting waxwings.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Stephanie, having been pruned a few weeks ago, you may not have much in the way of flowers or berries this year. I will be in flower in a few weeks, depending where you live.
