Shady east facing wall

Hello.

The wall in the picture faces East and is quite shady. I was thinking about planting with ferns as hostas but wanted to add something that would give some structure and interest in winter. Any recommendations? It is also a narrow border of around 75cm.

Thanks.image

There are quite a few varieties of clematis that do better in the shade because their colour isn't bleached out. Hydrangeas/ camellia/ Elaeagnus also cope with shade, and I guess you'll get a bit of morning sun anyway?
