Mossy slimy lawn

I have moved to a new property. The rear garden is raised and contained within a retained walled area that is triangular in shape. There is a pond in the center that although not large is heavily overgrown with shrubs and trees. I would say the area is approximately 200m square but possibly larger. The garden is bounded by Leylandii. PROBLEM - the lawn is purely moss and is now also becoming very slimy almost like pond algae.
Where do I start in rectifying this, for example would a full moss de-turf and re-turf rectify the problem? Many thanks Emma
