Tiny flying things

B3B3 Posts: 27,505

I noticed loads of  little flying insects flying around me when I was watering the patio plants just now. There's no evidence of black or green fly on the plants.

What are they?

Did they bite (feel slightly itchy) me or am I imagining it?

In London. Keen but lazy.

Might be some little midgey things B3?

I spotted a small cluster of flying things hovering around an azalea last week when it was sunny.

I don't think we get midges in London but they certainly behaved like them.

    Bites were imaginary image fortunately

I've certainly seen midges in London image  particularly around areas where bark chippings have been used as a mulch, and the weather is warm and damp.

Sounds as if it looks like a midge and behaves like a midge then it is a midge.image

  • I am new to gardening and I have recently faced a similar problem.

I found this article very helpful http://www.rodalesorganiclife.com/garden/top-ten-garden-insect-pests

So did I Kitty - oh no, they were children....image image

The midge - oh the joy of them. I'm saying nothing  image

Get that Avon skin so soft gunk, or  one of those net/hoody things B3. The only trouble with the Avon product is that the midges kind of 'adhere' to it. Very attractive image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
