What have I done to my viburnum?

Help! I pruned my viburnum last Autumn and now on one side all the leaves have turned brown. The other side looks more healthy! Where did I go wrong and what can I do now? Should I remove all the brown leaves?
Many thanks,

Pruning should not have left it damaged like that, unless you somehow cut through the bark on that area without actually removing the stems. Could be wind damage, could be frost damage, could be Viburnum beetle damage. I would prune out the damage and feed the shrub to help it recover.
They're pretty robust shrubs, so hopefully it's nothing more than frost or wind, as Berghill says.
Follow that advice re pruning out damage and then you might have a clearer idea of the cause. Is anything nearby damaged in a similar way?
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think it must be wind damage, the branches at the front to the left and some of the lower branches are very healthy. We had winds so strong earlier in the year that the back fence is now leaning over. I wonder if I hadn't of pruned it, it might of had more protection against wind damage. The plant was about 10ft tall and 20ft wide. It got too tall to be sheltered by the neighbours fence.
Thanks for your advice, I've given it a prune and a big feed of homemade compost with some fish and bone. I hope it will grow back!
