Lonicera fragrantissima

SammymummySammymummy Posts: 202

Hello everyone

This is my winter flowering honeysuckle I planted last year. It looks a bit messy and I am not sure whether I am meant to tie the branches to the fence behind, so would very much appreciate your advice.

Many thanks!

It's a bush not a climber but I'm sure it would be fine trained to a fence

Thank you Nut for being super quick - would it benefit from pruning at this stage? It still has flowers on it.

If you want to train it to the fence you could cut off the branches that don;'t fit in with what you want. I'm not a big pruner, I let things grow. I'd rather have one natural looking shrub than 2 or 3 cut back to fit

Thank you again, that makes sense.

If you are going to prune it, then now is the right time. They flower best on wood grown from now on, so pruning will encourage the bush to make new shoots.
