I have two patio roses in pots. How exactly should I go about pruning them and is it ok to do this now? Should I also use some rose food in the container?
Hello Splandy. Now is a good time to prune your roses. Carefully remove any branches that are crossing each other, Remove any dead bits. Do not prune too hard - aim to remove about a third of the growth - but always cut to buds that face outwards from the middle of the bush. One pruned you can then give them a boost with your rose food.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Hi ladybird, thanks for your reply. When you say to remove a third, do you mean remove a third of all branches right the way down or reduce all branches by a third in height? Does it matter that there is already growth on them?
Sorry Splandy - I meant a third of each branch not a third of all the plants branches. Give them all a little trim. Don't worry about removing growing shoots either. Pruning encourages stronger growth all round.

Tee hee - I just didn't make myself clear enough! Definitely room for improvement.
