Deadheading

I have deadheaded my daffs, taking the flower heads and most of the stalks off too, but how do you treat tulips and hyacinths?

Dead head those too.   They look unsightly left and you get a better flower the next year tho I know some people treat tulips as annuals as they often don't come back if the soil is a bit too heavy for them.   I grew species tulips quite happily in Belgium but the hybrids didn't ever come back.

  • Thanks Obelixx, I will do that over the w/end.  They are mostly second year bulbs, but have done extremely well (the hyacinths), the tulips not so good second time around.

We get our tulips direct from Holland - brother or sister-in-law usually bring us some of the newest releases.  I adore tulips - daffs and hyacinths are nice, but tulips come in such a lot of colours and combinations these days.
